The stone materials have always been having a traditional role in the envelope’s systems and they have been constantly adapting themselves to the building and designing evolutions, but, within their use today, the problem of sustainability puts itself clearer and clearer because the marbles, the stones, the granites and the travertines are finite and not renewable resources. This absolute need cannot be separated from the ones concerning to the technological and aesthetical qualities that have been making these materials fundamental in the history of the building technique. On this subject is interesting the “Informi Project”, in phase of realization in the Massa Carrara Province with the advice of the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Pisa, which analyses the possibility of recovery and of use of loss materials not suitable to be cut into slabs, in order to obtain high quality and innovative finished and semifinished works proper to the modern building systems. The Project, that would involve the entire local Stone District, could revive the sector and give a new impulse to the use and to the technological innovation of these materials in the envelopes, which are one of their more significant applications.
